| CRIME MANAGER DEVELOPMENTS | |
|
Since its initial deployment, and as a
result of the usage and testing it has received, Crime Manager has
undergone a large number of improvements to its functionality. These
generally concern display and access to data and the general
functionality of the application. During demonstrations to other
customers one question was always asked however - 'Does Crime Manager
have a general search facility?' Sadly initially it did not and
users were required to perform a search within whatever module of the
application they were currently using. Following extensive research in November 2008 a general search tool was constructed and tested and has now been included within the latest version of the product. The following screen shots explain how it works and how a huge amount of time can now be saved in using Crime Manager. |

| The Main General Search Screen | |

Using this simple search tool all of the tables and fields listed will be searched for a text string in one query. The user may choose to search one operation or all operations to which he or she has access. Searching is controlled according to a users permissions. |
| The Search Help Screen | |

Using the turquoise Help button, top right will give access to advice on how best to use the search tool. |
| The Search Results Screen | |
![]() |
Once the search is performed all text matching the search string, in this case 'red' will be highlighted within the results displayed. |
| Search Links | |

On the left had side of the results the type of result is displayed shown in this view are 'Action' and 'Action Result'. In order to see a fuller view of the result on the right hand side of the display a 'View' link is provided. Depending on what result is displayed using the view link will produce a full copy of the item which was found. |
| BAR CODE SCANNING | |
| The most recent development to Crime Manager is the introduction of bar code scanning enabling greater control of Exhibits within the application. All exhibits can now have a unique bar code attached to them which then allows for them to be returned instantaneously to the database without the need for text searching. | |
